10 Benefits of Building With Wood

When it comes to construction and remodeling of homes today, there are more building material options than ever. Despite these options, the only real choice is wood. Wood continues to prove its worth for many reasons. Here are 10 benefits of building with wood:

  1. Strength and Durability — Wood can provide a solid foundation for any home. Building codes require all building materials, including wood, to meet safety requirements for extreme events like hurricanes and earthquakes. Treated-wood is also resistant to water, fungal decay and termites and other pests.
  2. Proven Dependability — With a strong track record over the past 100 years, homes constructed with wood framework continue to be the top choice for both homeowners and home builders. It's no wonder 9 out of 10 homes today are built with wood.
  3. Sustainability — Unlike many products such as steel that have a limited supply, wood is renewable. Sustainable, certified forestry accounts for a large segment of the lumber products industry. Nearly half of all trees planted annually are from forest products companies.
  4. Obtainability — Because wood is sustainable and forests are able to replenish, wood is vastly available and in high demand. This helps to keep the price of wood low and competitive and is the reason why wood-framed homes continue to be a staple in residential construction.
  5. Green Factor — Wood products are much greener for the environment. It takes much less energy and resources to harvest and produce wood products. Wood also releases less toxic emissions, minimizing its pollution output.
