HLPA Holds "Builders Forum" at the AWPA Conference in Honolulu

The current President of HLPA, Ken Laughlin, chaired the 109th Annual Meeting of the AWPA this past month at the Sheraton Waikiki. A technical conference, their annual meeting explored how treated wood products are tested and evaluated. The AWPA is a non-profit organization responsible for promulgating voluntary wood preservation standards. Hawaii is extremely important to the treated wood industry. This is a vitally important aspect to the construction industry here in Hawaii since all structural wood elements in each building in Hawaii is required by State building codes to be treated. Hawaii provides an ideal location for rigorous wood preservative field testing, which was demonstrated to conference attendees. Hawaii's leading builders shared their local industry knowledge in the Hawaii Builders session, including HLPA Members, Ken Laughlin, Robert Kayser, Jr., VP, Gentry Builders, Jim Keller, President/CEO, Armstrong Builders, Alan Labbe, Vice President of Construction, D.R. Horton Builders and Alan Ross with Protection of Composites in Hawaii.
