March 2017   Online Version Forward to a Friend

Aloha HLPA Members,

I'm Scott Loomer, President of Truss Systems Hawaii, Inc., and I'm proud to be your 2017 HLPA President. I'm a longtime Hawaii resident, arriving in the islands in 1984. I have been building trusses in Hawaii for over 33 years on all Islands. I managed truss plants across the state before joining Horita Construction in 1990 as a Project Superintendent to set-up and oversee their own truss manufacturing on Oahu and Maui.

In 1994, I started Truss Systems Hawaii, Inc., located on Maui in Puunene. We manufacture building components, roof and floor trusses, wall panels and storage sheds. In my career, I have been responsible for a wide range of projects, which include building many of the most unique and prestigious custom homes in Hawaii.

I look forward to working with all of you to promote lumber products as Hawaii's preferred building material. And remember, "Hawaii Grows With Wood."

Scott Loomer,
2017 HLPA President

Consumer Corner

In an effort to further promote lumber products as Hawaii's preferred building material, HLPA has implemented new initiatives to reach local consumers. Check out our article that appeared in the February 27 issue of Honolulu Star-Advertiser's Hawaii Renovation.

Reviving Your Home With
Lumber Products

Hawaii’s real estate market continues to be extremely competitive as the housing inventory tries to keep up with the ever-increasing demand. Median sale prices for single-family homes rose over 3.8 percent from January 2016 to January 2017 from $625,000 to $650,000, according to Hawaii real estate brokerage Locations.

With such high prices, rebuilding or renovating your home is the much more affordable option if you have a growing family or have needs that your current home is not satisfying. Wood is the only renewable building material on the market, is easy to manipulate because of its light weight in relation to load bearing capacity, and is easy to modify at anytime in the future.

HLPA members have your back in taking care of all of your lumber needs from framing lumber, structural beams, engineered wood products (EWP) and decorative exotics to give a new finish and look to your entire home. They offer high-quality service and products with the latest innovations and designs that meet the standards of durability for the environmental demands found in Hawaii.

HLPA is comprised of professionals in the lumber industry who are committed to the education and promotion of lumber products as the best choice for home construction and improvement in Hawaii. Treated-wood products have a proven track record of success in protecting local homes from fungal decay and pests such as carpenter ants, roaches and the highly destructive Formosan subterranean termite.
