HLPA Unveils New Mission Statement

The HLPA steering committee met earlier this year to discuss a way to tangibly track the organizations updated goals. Together, they came up with an updated Mission Statement. See the updated HLPA mission below:

“Our goal is to promote lumber products as a preferred building material based on the proven track record of wood and its achievements of long-term performance success in Hawaii’s construction industry. This goal will be achieved by connecting stakeholders, professionals and the various user groups by providing Hawaii specific, up to date resources, guides and educational and networking opportunities. Through these various marketing avenues, we will work to bring the positive message of lumber as a renewable building material resource that provides benefits to the environment, produces sound construction economics, creates architectural flexibility and meets the highest structural engineering standards.”

See Plywood Hawaii in the September Issue of Building Industry

One of HLPA’s founding members was in the September 2018 issue of Building Industry! Connie Smales, one of HLPA’s founding members and President of Plywood Hawaii, can be found on page 66 talking about the newest preventative treatment in hardwood plywood, treated glue line.

This new treatment can take an encapsulated active ingredient and bind it to the internal wood fiber using heat and pressure during manufacturing. The insecticide then permeates the internal wood fiber and protects the plywood from insect attack. See HERE on page 66
